In the foothills of the Truong Son Mountains, west of Da Nang, Highway 14B cruises through a small gorge that a small stream has cut through the hills. The road follows a straight line path, whereas the river makes a big S curve, making the whole thing kind of similar to a big dollar sign. The creek loses quite a bit of elevation as it drops, resulting in several small but fun waterfalls. Since the road crosses the creek not only inside the gorge, but also upstream and downstream, this makes for a fantastic intro canyon for those looking to get into the sport of canyoning. Starting at a small bridge just upstream of the gorge, one can drop down the eight or seven or eight small waterfalls in this short gorge, and then walk out to the bridge at the bottom. One could conceivably walk the shuttle too, resulting in a single bike canyon option.
The heart of the canyon is pretty straightforward: lots of small, chunky waterfalls. None of them are that big, with the largest being about 20' in total vertical, but they are all walked around (or straight down) relatively easily. The most photogenic section is around the big drop, where the elevation drops away and the smooth, polished bedrock of the gorge below comes into view. All told this canyon should not take more than an hour or two at most for even the most relaxed of parties.
